Baby's Wild Ride is the third episode of The Mask: The Animated Series.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Kellaway having an interview with a news reporter after The Mask prevented a robbery and asks about his opinion on The Mask. As usual, the cynical Kellaway badmouths him about it, resulting in him getting a wedgie from The Mask again, who then arrives home with a brand new TV just in time to watch the big game, which he admits he maxed out the credit card on, which is still needed for 17 payments, but decides to let Stanley worry about it instead, while he watches the big game with Milo. However, a knock on the door causes The Mask to remove his face, transforming back into Stanley who then places the the Mask on the TV before answering the door. His neighbor Francis Forthwright asks him to look after her baby, which proves to be a big challenge for Stanley; Baby begins to throw a tantrum over a TV show and Stanley's lack of ice cream. The Mask falls onto the sofa when Stanley pushes the off button on the TV, and the curious baby sees the mask and wears it, and Stanley is too late to pry it off of the child as he transforms. The Masked Baby proves to be even more chaotic and impulsive than the adult Mask, trashing Stanley's apartment and destroying his new TV before going after an ice cream truck, eating all the flavors. Kellaway and Doyle come to investigate, with the former concluding that The Mask's probably behind it, only being half-right. Meanwhile, Baby Mask continues his rampage for ice cream by going into an ice cream shop and eating all of the flavors. After a short feud between Lonnie the Shark's minions, they join the baby mask, who then sets his sights on another ice cream truck, which turns out to be a trap set up by Kellaway and Doyle. Angry, the baby Mask attacks Kellaway and gets away with his pants. The gang attacks Stanley, who had been frantically searching for the Masked Baby, packs him in the trunk and gets away. Stanley asks Milo to get the keys so he can open the trunk. Milo then accidentally starts the car when he tried to get the keys and drives the car. Meanwhile, the gang goes to the studio where Barnaby the Dinosaur is being produced. but the henchmen accidentally remove the mask from the baby in an attempt to remove the milk bottle he was drinking. Their old boss, Lonnie the Shark, dressed as Barnaby, comes and demands to see their new boss, only to find the now normal baby sitting in the motorcycle. Furious, Lonnie asks them to explain, but the gang is at a loss. Lonnie accuses the baby of being an undercover cop due to him wearing a wire and threatens to deal with the baby.

Milo continues driving the car on cruise control as Stanley, who is still in the truck, gives a command on where Milo should turn. They arrive to the set just in time crashing into the biker gang, and just as Lonnie is about to deal with Stanley. Milo gets a hold of the mask and gives it to Stanley who comes out the trunk as The Mask with a bike of his own to stop Lonnie and his gang. Lonnie demands to know who he is, and The Mask (dressed as a teenage girl) tells him that he is the baby's babysitter before pulling out his huge guns. Lonnie orders the biker gang to stop him, but The Mask easily overpowers them before confronting Lonnie, who heads to the top of the building and drops the baby. The Mask rescues him just in time, putting him back in his stroller before going to stop Lonnie, riding his bike on the side of the building upwards. Unfortunately he rides past him and up into the sky just his bike runs out of gas. While falling, he decides to remove his face, which leaves Stanley to fall on top of Lonnie into the set and the Mask itself is seen rolling to where the baby was. The baby gets to it and wears it again to take on Lonnie to defeat him, with Milo tagging along. At this time Kellaway (wearing a diaper) and Doyle arrive out of a farmer's truck to chase after The Mask. Lonnie and his biker gang are arrested. As Stanley comes to waking up from the debris where he crashed in, Kellaway sees Stanley and once again accuses him of being The Mask, but instead Stanley lies to him getting a Barnaby costume revealing himself to be Barnaby as the understudy. Unconvinced yet defeated, Kellaway vows that he will keep pursuing him until he can prove that he is The Mask. A stage worker comes seeing Barnaby, unaware of Stanley being in the costume, and puts him onstage to perform live on TV. Unfortunately, Stanley's stage fright starts acting up and he faints. The baby is seen in the audience with Milo, holding the mask in his hands and then putting it on again, ending the episode by tearing the closing circle.

Trivia[]

  • Barnaby the dinosaur is an obvious parody of Barney the Dinosaur.
  • Even though Baby Forthwright wore the Mask in the pilot, this episode's idea of a Mask-Baby wreaking havoc would become the premise for the ill-fated Son of the Mask.
  • This is one of the few times The Mask takes his job very seriously, especially when it comes to ensuring Baby Forthwright's safety.
  • This episode as in the previous episode, shows how much of a caring and loving parent figure The Mask can be to children, even with the younger ones.
  • This episode along with The Mask is Always Greener on the Other Side Part 1 and Mutiny of the Bounty Hunters are the only episodes where Baby Forthwright wears the Mask.
  • This episode shows that adult Mask personas are a lot more controllable than the infant Mask personas as Masked Baby shows.
