The Devil also known as "Bub", is a villain from The Mask: The Animated Series.

History[]

The Devil was a trickster and a troublemaker who often deceived people, whom he called "his clients" into exchanging their souls for their hopes and dreams.

In the episode "Boogie with the Man", he hears Stanley Ipkiss wishing that he would do anything if he had the same pleasures as his Mask persona. He then appears disguised as human named "Bub" and made a deal with Stanley. He would give him all the pleasures his heart desired if he signed a contract. Stanley agrees and signs without reading the small print that says if he agrees to this, his soul would belong to "Bub" for eternity. Afterwards Stanley would be given the pleasures he desired, such as gaining prices twice and becoming the Bank vice-president.

"Bub" then appears and reminds him of their deal which makes Stanley take out a magnifying glass to see the small print. He tries to talk his way out of it but the contract is legal and binding. "Bub" however gives Stanley a chance to get someone else to replace him in the contract. Stanley tries several unsuccessful attempts to do this, as they have more common sense and use a magnifying glass to read the small print. Peggy Brandt almost signs, but Stanley knows he cannot do that to his friend so he takes it away. "Bub" continues to pursue Stanley who then becomes the Mask. They battle with "Bub" brandishing a gold topped cane that shoots bolts of lightning. He then sends the Mask down to the Underworld.

In the Underworld, he laughs sadistically as the Mask goes through extreme torture by Day Time Talk Shows played over and over again, hard labour, wearing polyester and finally being forced to eat his most loathed food consisting of a meal containing Liver, Lima Beans and Rice Cakes.

The Mask then decides to make another deal with "Bub", in fact a bet. If he won, the contract would be null and void but if "Bub" won then the Mask would be his personal slave for eternity. "Bub" was reluctant at first because he had the Mask right where he wanted him anyway but when the Mask mocked him, he agreed. The Mask said that the bet would take place at a dance competition at the Coco Bongo. "Bub" scoffed saying that one of his clients had been a famous dancer that he had taught himself.

At Midnight, the competition took place. Despite "Bub" having various skilled dancing skills, the Mask won and tricked him into signing the same contract he had tricked Stanley with, making him the personal servant of the Mask for all eternity, much to his displeasure.

"Bub" returned in "Convention of Evil", where he is invited to a group therapy session held by psychiatrist Dr. Neuman along with other villains Pretorius, Lonnie the Shark and Pete, The Tempest, Gorgonzola and The Stinger. He arrived halfway through Gorgonzola recalling her battle with the Mask. After telling of his encounter with Mask, he vowed vengeance for his humiliation. Pretorius says that they will all be meeting "Bub" someday in the Underworld which fills the others with terror and "Bub" agrees saying that he doesn't see a single pair of angel wings or harps in any of their futures. Eventually all the villains were defeated by the Mask who had been disguised as Dr. Neuman all along, while the real Dr. Neuman had been held up in traffic jam on the way to the session. His defeat was falling down a large black hole in the floor that the Mask had thrown in the direction he was running, sending him back down to the Underworld.
