To Have and Have Snot is the fiftieth episode of The Mask: The Animated Series.

Summary[]

Pretorius uses Peggy's phlegm from her cold to create a giant mucus monster that infects the people of Edge City. Unfortunately, Stanley learns that having a cold while wearing the Mask has unpredictable and ultimately fatal consequences.

Plot[]

Stanley is running late for work until he gets a phone call from Peggy, who has been captured by Pretorius to lure the Mask into a trap. She was supposed to stay home because she had caught a cold, but she decided to investigate Pretorius' activities and now, Pretorius has used this opportunity to take a sample of Peggy's phlem for a future experiment. The Mask quickly arrives at Pretorius' base and saves Peggy, but Pretorius escapes and Peggy accidentally infects the Mask with her cold after sneezing in his face.

The next day, both Stanley and Milo have been infected with Peggy's cold, while Peggy has been sent to Edge City Prison to cover its new decorations. As usual, Peggy wants to write an exciting story, so she baits Walter into using her as a hostage to escape from prison. A reluctant Stanley puts on the Mask to save her, but his powers malfunction due to his cold and Walter escapes. The Mask, worried for his own health, investigates his personal history and finds, much to his own dismay, that the common cold is one of the very few things that can adversely affect the Mask. Should the Mask and its infected wearer remained bonded for too long, they will die. Not only that, but the Mask learns that he is also supposed to go through seven cold symptoms before kicking the bucket. After experiencing the first three, the Mask realizes that the only way to avoid the grim outcome is for Stanley to stop using the Mask until he makes a full recovery.

Unfortunately, Pretorius has created a monster using the sample he took from Peggy. The monster now possesses the powers of the common cold and has infected everyone in Edge City and not even the military can stop it. Initially, Stanley feels reluctant to put on the Mask, but he does so when he sees that the monster captured Peggy. Between the monster's slimy body and his own reduced powers, the Mask poses no challenge to the monster and Peggy notices that his condition is getting progressively worse. They even fail to separate the Mask from Stanley because they haven't fully recovered from the cold.

As the Mask goes through the other four symptoms, he quickly finds out that the only solution they have left is finding the cure: ingesting a Bavarian wood-mite. Because time is of the essence, the Mask sends Peggy to Bavaria on a rocket, while he attempts to stall the monster. Fortunately, Peggy returns just in time to have the Mask ingest a bottle full of Bavarian wood-mites. The cure works and the Mask regains his full power. He then uses the cure to destroy the monster, but not before giving Pretorius a taste of his own proverbial disease and forcing him to retreat.

Trivia[]

The seven cold symptoms that the Mask goes through are as follows:

  1. Sneezing his head off (literally).
  2. Loss of bladder control.
  3. Head cold (which causes the Mask’s head to get frozen in ice).
  4. Hacking cough (which causes the Mask to literally hack his arms off when he coughs).
  5. Dance fever (which causes the Mask to go through multiple forms of dancing such as Russian dance, Cuban salsa, etc).
  6. Getting stuffed up ( which causes the Mask to get sucked into and stuffed up places such as storm drains and car exhaust pipes).
  7. Post nasal (which causes the Mask to spew a huge amount of mucus from his nose).
